This loose leaf blend is crafted with herbs that are specifically known to soothe the digestive system which have been traditionally used for thousands of years.

Ingredients:

1. Dandelion leaf acts as a bitter to improve the digestion, stimulates appetite, and balances the natural and beneficial bacteria in the intestines. It can increase the release of stomach acid and bile to aid digestion, especially of fats  absorption. Dandelion is a great antioxidant which could regulate the free radical levels and reduce chances of them causing cell damage and chronic disease.

2. Yarrow flowers  classed as a “bitter herb”, so it is an excellent digestive stimulant that encourages proper bile secretion from the gallbladder, which in turn promotes digestion and can prevent gallstones from forming. Bitters stimulate the taste buds. This triggers off a reflex nerve action, which increases the flow of saliva and stomach enzymes. The sum total of this is an improvement in the digestive function of the stomach and small intestines. Yarrow contains volatile oils and flavonoids. These have an anti- spasmodic and anti-inflammatory action on the digestive system, easing colic and reducing flatulence.

3. Licorice roots are considered to have strong anti-inflammatory properties and is a treatment of variety of illnesses, from stomach ulcers to diabetes. Licorice root can beneficial soothe any irritation in the digestive tract. This includes painful spasms, bloating, gas, impaired digestion, and chronic gastritis.

4.Shrubby Cinquefoil (Potentilla) decreased gut swelling, digestive pain, and cramping.

5. Chamomile.  The volatile oils, terpenoids, and flavonoids in chamomile flowers have powerful effects on the entire digestive system. The bitter compounds in the plant stimulate the production of digestive enzymes that break down food in the digestive tract. The volatile oils in chamomile have a carminative effect, which means they break up gas in the digestive tract.

6. Plantain. The high mucilage content of Plantain leaves, coupled with their anti-inflammatory properties make this wonderful herb for many digestive complaints.  Plantain has astringent properties which make it effective in treating diarrhea, gastritis and colitis. It can help to restore acid balance which regulates gastric secretions, and can treat inflammation in the stomach and bowels.  Plantain is an effective treatment for chronic colitis, acute gastritis , enteritis and enterocolitis. With soothing, demulcent properties, Plantain helps to restore the protective coating of mucous membranes to a damaged stomach lining which helps to protect against ulcers.

7. St. John’s Wort is a herb widely used for its anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antidepressant and anticancer effects. John's Wort acts as a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Tt is important to note that serotonin has a profound effect on gastrointestinal function, being that 95% of the body’s serotonin is cradled in the gut.  At the start of digestion, it is the enterochromaffin cells that release serotonin into the gastrointestinal tract, which houses many serotonin receptors.  The receptors then initiate a process via nerve cells that starts the flow of digestive enzymes.  St. Johns Wort which manipulate the serotonin may potentially help IBS symptoms. So this herb is effective at treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

8. Fireweed (fermented). It is a gentle, yet effective anti-inflammatory that helps conditions including diarrhea, stomach, and intestinal inflammation. Tannins in fireweed act as an astringent. By improving the tone of the colon, it slows water from being reabsorbed and can act as a mild laxative. Fireweed is extremely high in vitamin C, bioflavinoids and other vitamin A building blocks, mucilages and pectin that help support colonies of probiotics and are soothing to skin and gut cells, potassium and other minerals.
