Food.
Juniper berries Juniper berries are typically used only in small amounts to flavor wild meats, cuts richness of fatty meats like duck and pork. They are a popular ingredient in marinades, sauces, spice rubs, and specialty cocktails. 

If you’ve never cooked with this kind of berries before, they should be handled with care, since their flavor is so intense that it can easily overwhelm a dish if too many are used.

 

Medicine.
Juniper is a powerful diuretic – a herb that increases the flow of urine, helping to cleanse the system of excess fluids and stimulating the kidneys.

The berries are rich in volatile oils, in particular terpinen, which is reported to increase the rate of kidney filtration, which in turn increases urine flow whilst helping to flush out bacteria from the kidneys and bladder. This makes Juniper exceptionally useful in the treatment of urinary tract infections. 

Juniper berries are rich in essential oils and flavonoids that function as potent antioxidants and may help reduce inflammation.

Studies show that juniper berries have powerful antibacterial and anti fungal properties. 

Herbal infusion (tea):

Recommended daily dose for an adult:

1 teaspoon of crushed berries is infused in 400 ml of boiling water for 2 hours.

The berries can also be brewed together with any herbal tea. Use 3-5 crushed berries for 1 cup of tea.

Warning.
Juniper berries are should be avoided by women who are pregnant, as juniper is considered uterine stimulants.
